A Healthy Weight for Your Cat

If your cat gets fat, what will be the best way to slim it down to your kitty? It is important to know what is a healthy weight for your cat. Fat cats are so common that you may not even realize your cats are on the portly side. But the number of fleshy and weighty cats has increased, and veterinarians are also observing more obese cats.

Here is a problem for us. We like to spoil our cats, and do not care, what cats like, our cats like to eat, and it is easy to overfeed cats.

This thing is serious to take. Even a few extra dollars can make your pet more likely to have health problems like type 2 diabetes. It can also prevent them from preparing themselves properly. Maintaining extra weight should lead to a healthy, happy cat.

HEALTHY WEIGHT FOR CATS:

What is a healthy weight for your cat? There is different weight scheme for different kind of cats. For domestic cats, the best weight should be 10 pounds, although this may vary by breed and frame. Some cats can weigh up to 5 pounds. And some others can be 25 pounds and be healthy.

Your vet can tell you if your cat is overweight, but there are some signs you can look for yourself. A veterinarian, Melissa Mustillo said, “Cats should have that hourglass figure when you’re looking down at them, they shouldn’t have a saggy belly hanging down, and you should be able to feel their ribs’’. Remember it, a cat that was obese will still have a “saggy belly’’ after losing weight.

HOW TO KEEP THE POUNDS(WEIGHT) OFF:

Veterinarians say that a cat’s weight gain usually comes down to plain old boredom, as well as the type and amount of food they are fed. It depends on what kind of food you feed your cat and how much quantity you give.

Melissa Mustillo says, “When they’re bored, they think, ‘I might as well go eat.   . . . Oh, look there’s no food in my bowl, I’m going to bother mom for more food.”

I’m going to tell you some most effective steps if you will act upon these steps, it is certainly possible to prevent or stop weight gain in pets and cats as well.

Here are these steps:

Replace dry foods with canned foods, which are high in protein and low in carbohydrates. Canned food is also a good way to set separate mealtimes for your pet. Many cats gain weight when owners leave a bowl of dry kibble for them to eat throughout the day.

If you have many pet cats, you may need to feed the overweight cat in a separate room or place the healthy cat’s food up high where the fat cat can’t get to.

Cut back on treatment. Cats do the same with other rewards, like playtime with you.

Let your cat work for its goodness. Veterinarians have found that cats are healthier and calmer when their owners use “food puzzles” which the cat must act out or manipulate to get treats. You can hide some in small cans or cut one or more small holes in a plastic bottle and fill it with kibble.

You can use a microchip pet feeder, which makes food available only to the animal registered to that feeder.

Firstly, get a physical exam of your cats to ensure they do not have any fundamental medical problems, then you can put your cat on a diet. It may be sufficient to replace the whole day’s grazing on kibble with fixed meals. But a heavy cat may need to eat canned food or switch to a special prescription diet that contains more protein, vitamins, and minerals per calorie. Remember that it is important to maintain a healthy weight for your cat.

You should remember one thing: Don’t ever make your cat feel hungry. Cats, especially giant ones, can face liver failure if they don’t eat even for a few days.
